Taurine is a simple sulphur-containing compound and is one of the most abundant amino acids in the body. It plays a variety of roles in the functioning of the brain, heart, gallbladder, eyes and vascular system. One of its basic functions is to facilitate the passage of sodium, potassium and magnesium ions into and out of cells and to electrically stabilise the cell membranes.
Long chains of molecularly bonded individual amino acids form protein. The body must first break down these molecular (peptide) bonds for amino acid absorption to take place.
Solgar®'s free form amino acids are already in their simplest form (no peptide bonds), and can be readily absorbed into the bloodstream.
