L-carnitine is actually a dipeptide, i.e., an amino acid made up of two other essential amino acids, in this case methionine and lysine. L-carnitine is important for fat metabolism, especially in the heart and muscle cells. It is also necessary for the transport of long chain fatty acids into cell mitochondria where the acids are oxidised and burned for energy.
Long chains of molecularly bonded individual amino acids form protein. The body must first break down these molecular (peptide) bonds for amino acid absorption to take place.
Solgar®'s free form amino acids are already in their simplest form (no peptide bonds), and can be readily absorbed into the bloodstream.
